Celebration
Here are some of the most important celebration in Caribean Region:
Fiestas del Mar: This celebration began in 1959 in Santa Marta and El Rodadero. It's celebrated from July 29th to August 2nd. The citizens enjoy a festivity full of sports activities as swimming and water ski, and beauty. Francisco Ospina and Emilio Bermudez were the first organizers.
Carnaval de Barranquilla: From February 14th to February 16th, Barranquilla's
citizens get dressed of festival because arrive the most popular carnival of
the city. Precarnaval begins with Lectura del Bando but the festival starts
with Flowers Battle. This is a folk event that has dancer, musicians, customes
and floats. According to UNESCO, Barranquilla's Carnival is a masterpiece of
oral heritage and inmaterial of the
humanity.
Festival de la Cultura Wayuú: It’s celebrated in May in Uribia. This is the most important cultural festival of Guajira and native population. It highlight ancestral custom, tradition and folk Guajira culture. Beside to promote different expressions of art treasures of Wayuú people.
Feria de la Ganaderia: It’s an event which is celebrated annually in July in Monteria. It began in 1960 to homage creation of Cordoba Department on June 18th, 1852. The festival has different events like exhibitions, artisan fair and bovine show. Breeders from all Colombia go there. Beside to festival also is realized National Breeding Contest since 1961 and International Breeding Contest since 2008 where come participants from Latin America.
Fiestas de la independencia de Cartagena de Indias: It’s been celebrated since XIX century to homage the November 11th, date where happened absolute independence of Cartagena. In the city organize popular parties which has musicians, popular troupes and others folks activities. In last decades have been celebrated Reinado Nacional de Belleza which participate candidates of different departments and one of them will be “Reina de Belleza” or Beauty Queen for the related year.
